BioTherapeutics is committed to developing therapies aimed on saving and sustaining lives. The company has played a leading role in the development of plasma proteins. Baxter continues to leverage its core strengths in science and technology, quality and manufacturing expertise for better patient care. Our investments support a multi-pronged R&D strategy that extends the current portfolio and uncovers new opportunities such as internal discovery, development, and strategic partnerships.
One such example is albumin, which has historically been packaged in glass bottles. As a result of technical requirements related to manufacturing, no single plastic material has been able to meet these standards until now. Baxter is utilizing its packaging technology to create a convenient flexible plastic container for albumin that meets the changing needs of our customers. We are continuously looking at different ways to strengthen our core competencies for further product innovation.
In addition, Baxter has a long-standing history of developing therapies for rare coagulation and thrombotic disorders, such as severe congenital Protein C deficiency. As part of that commitment, we have made Protein C available to patients, most of them children in the Unites States and Europe.
